Green Building

Design and Construction of high performance green buildings.  A green building uses less energy, water and natural resources; creates less waste; is healthier and more comfortable for the occupants.

  • Lower energy and water bills
  • Reduced greenhouse gas emissions
  • Less exposure to mold, mildew and other indoor toxins
  • Divert construction waste from landfills by sorting recyclable items

Design is an important focal point of the Green Building Revolution.  In the US, buildings account for about one third of CO2 emissions and primary energy use.  There is a tremendous opportunity to improve the performance of new construction and existing buildings.  Some aspects that can be changed right away to "green" a building are implementing best management practices pertaining to: whole-building cleaning and maintenance issues (including chemical use), recycling programs, exterior maintenance programs, and systems upgrades.  During construction, use of paints, adhesives and sealants with Low Volatile Organic Compounds will improve indoor air quality.  Installing low flow water fixtures will reduce overall water consumption.  Using materials with recycled content that have been produced regionally, and/or are rapidly renewable reduces the use and depletion of finite raw materials.  There are many aspects of buildings that should be considered when taking steps towards becoming a more eco friendly high performance building.
